This release makes the program work, and work well. The next release will impliment the exportation of the data. Then a new version (1.5 probably ) will be developed to find 100 possible combinations for a lock if any of the three numbers are known.
What MLS Does
MLS will narrow the number of possible combinations of a MatserLock to 100, provided you know the last number. The algorithm that is used is very complex, and if you want it you'll have to give me more than what you are giving me for it. Mail me if you want it however, and tell me what you will use it for.
The way MLS does it is unimportant. The way you make MLS do it is probably what you want to know. Simple, open it up and type the last number into the last number field. Type return after and the tables will fill up with data.
What the data represents
The data that you see in MLS after you type in the last number is quite straightforward. To get the lock opened in under five minutes, start with the first number in the possible first numbers colum and work your way down the possible second number colum. Then if none of those work, move on to the second number in the possible first numbers colum. Since there are ten possible second numbers for every posible first number, and there are ten possible first numbers, there are 100 possible combinations. Multiply that 100 possible combinations by the 2 to 3 seconds each one requires (or at the slowest 5 seconds) to try, and you get 300 to 500 seconds. 300 seconds is exactly 5 minutes.
Seeing how hacksawing a lock both alerts the person that someone broke in, or alerts whoever had the lock that something is wrong, and also destroys the lock, the 5 minutes that this program makes a lock take to open is well worth it. Planning on taking the lock anyway? Great, steal the lock, you know the combination, who cares?
Wait, I don't know the last number! This prorgram SUCKS!
Open the program and select the "The last number" menu. This will tell you how to find the last number on the old, and the new masterlocks and how to tell the two apart. It is very straight-forward. On new locks this process takes a minute-and-a-half. On old locks, ten seconds.
